Women scientists are not new, but they haven’t always gotten credit for being so stellar. In Jennifer Calvert and Octavia Jackson's Science Superstars, you’ll be introduced to 30 remarkable women whose passion and dedication to all things science led to groundbreaking discoveries, vital medicine, essential technology, and cutting-edge inventions that changed the world.

If you use GPS or Wi-Fi, you have Hedy Lamarr to thank for that. If you are fascinated by space travel, look no further than Katherine Johnson, Mary Jackson, Stephanie Kwolek, Sally Ride, and Mae Jemison. And if you’re spellbound by advances in medicine, the work of Elizabeth Blackwell, Elizabeth Garrett Anderson, Dorothy Crowfoot Hodgkin, and others is indispensable to the world we know today.

Discover the triumphs, curiosity, and hard work of female trailblazers whose love of science spurred revolutionary advances.

About the author

Jennifer Calvert; Illustrations by Octavia Jackson

JENNIFER CALVERT is a writer and editor with dozens of credits in nonfiction publishing, including Fearless and Teen Trailblazers. When she isn’t highlighting the accomplishments of incredible young women, you can find her curled up with a book and a cat in New Jersey.

OCTAVIA JACKSON was drawn to illustration and printmaking after studying Graphic Design in Chicago at DePaul University. She became passionate about illustration when she saw the underrepresentation of women of color like herself in the world of art. Geared with a sketchbook and a dream, she set out to illustrate the colorful women, to champion social justice, and to speak up for those who are underrepresented and left out. She now lives in Grand Rapids, Michigan with her husband and two cats.
